Books
Dad’s “Brag Book”

By Cindi Bisson

My cousin Nick and his wife Sasha will soon become parents for the first time. Wesley William Wood is due to arrive this summer. There have been baby showers, and lots of well deserved attention directed at the mom-to-be. So, I thought it would be fun to create something just for dad. A little masculine “brag book” for Nick to have in his office at work to show off his family is my gift for him. It’s full of “masculine” elements – sturdy chipboard, distressed plaid fabric, camouflage & metal rivet trim, a leather binding, painting, inking, stamping, rusted tin accents, and just a touch of baby whimsy from some adorable soft teddy bears with brown bows.

Supplies:
Chipboard mini album
Vintage Photo Distress inkpad (Ranger Industries)
Plaid patterned paper (BasicGrey)
Teddy bear accents (Creative Charms)
Rusted tin star and heart accents (The Primitive Barn)
Foam alphabet stamps (Making Memories – New Jersey & Philadelphia sets)
Scrapbook paints (Making Memories)
Camouflage trim with metal rivets (unknown brand)
Leather belt (unknown brand)
Label maker & black label strip (Dymo)
E-6000 Adhesive
Craft & Bond Glue (Elmer’s)

Instructions:
1. Use chipboard album as template to trace patterned paper for front and back covers of album.
2. Cut out covers, ink edges with Distress inkpad, and adhere using Elmer’s Craft & Bond adhesive.
3. To create monograms on cover (obviously, you will use whatever letters are appropriate….but for Wesley William
    Wood – it’s triple W’s!!):
    a. Coat “W” from Philadelphia foam stamp set with tan scrapbook paint. Stamp onto left of cover near outside edge.
Reapply paint, measure approximately 2” over and stamp again. Let dry or use heat tool to speed drying.
    b. Coat “W” from New Jersey foam stamp set with brown scrapbook paint. Stamp between the 2 tan “W” monograms.
        Let dry.
4. Measure and cut a strip of camouflage trim to apply vertically next to monogram on cover. Apply with E-6000 Adhesive.
5. Mount soft teddy bear accent to right of camouflage strip.
6. Write out “Dad’s Brag Book” using label maker. Cut and mount above and beneath teddy bear on cover.
7. Cut piece of old leather belt to serve as “spine” decoration on book. Mount using E-6000 adhesive. Let dry.
8. Using “direct to paper” technique – gently drag Distress inkpad along each inside chipboard page of the book to randomly add ink.
9. Embellish some of the inside pages as desired using additional pieces of inked patterned paper, rusted metal accents, camouflage trim, bears, etc. I, also, painted the inside edge near the binding on my pages as it was difficult to get the inkpad to ink that close to the inside edge.
