Altered Fairy Jar

Jennifer Willis
Off-Road Inksters
Intermediate Scramping Team Designer

While sitting in the back yard one day, I caught site of this little fairy and I knew I just had to make her mine. I watched her for days on end trying to concoct a plan to catch this elusive little thing. One day, I noticed she was drinking nectar from the honeysuckle, and that is when the idea hit. I put my plan into action and used this jar adding flowers with a taste of honey on each. I laid it in a concealed area and hid. Soon the fairy appeared and became curious about the new object. She was drawn to inspect it when the scent of honey caught her attention. Forcing her way through the mouth of the jar, she was soon busy eating the new found sweet treat. While her attention was diverted, I rushed up and capped the bottle off capturing this fascinating creature.

Supply List:
Butterfly Wing Stamp (LA Rubberworks)
Brilliance Galaxy Gold Ink Pad (Tsukineko)
Photo
Pearl Ex Red/Blue Duo (Jacquard)
Gloo (Ki Memories)
Wonder Tape 1/4” (Suze Weinberg)
White Cardstock
Mulberry Paper Flowers (Prima Marketing)
Glass Beads (Club Scrap, Blue Moon)
Dragonfly Brad (Club Scrap)
Pink Organdy Ribbon 1-1/2" Wide (Offray)
Foam Paint Brush
Scissors (Fiskars)
Chopstick (Found Object)
Sand (Found Object)
Glass Jar (Found Object)

Instructions:

1.        Using a clean jar, working in small areas, rub Gloo over the outer surface with a foam brush, leaving an area in the front clear. Pick up Pearl Ex with the handle of the brush and tap onto the jar. Using the foam end once more, pounce the Pearl Ex into the glue. Allow to dry.

2.        Stamp the butterfly wing in gold ink on white cardstock and trim neatly, leaving a small tab to attach to the photo. Trim the photo and attach the wing by gluing the tab to the back of the photo. Using a paper flower with stamens, add some Gloo to the bottom of the photo and work it between the stamens to create a base for the fairy. Allow to dry.

3.        Once everything has dried, pour sand into the bottom, drop some beads in. Curl the fairy to fit into the mouth as needed, and push her in bottom first. Using a chopstick position the fairy in the center of the jar and add additional paper flowers to help hold the image upright and in position. Cap the bottle off.

4.        Tie a bow around the neck of the jar and run the streamers down the sides, gluing in place where necessary and allow to dry.

5.        To create the floral swag, cut a strip of Wonder Tape about six inches long and lay sticky side up. Position flowers onto the tape beginning working from large to small. Using Gloo, embellish the centers of the flowers with beads and add the dragonfly brad. Allow to dry.

6.        Once the flower swag is finished, peel off the backing and attach it to the ribbon streamer along one side of the jar.
