The lunch box tins are so hot right now and can be used for jewelry carriers, make-up boxes or what ever you desire. They also make great gifts and can be personalized for anyone. Join me and give it a try. Let's see what develops!

Supplies:

Lunch Box Tin-(Oriental Trading)
1- 12x12 sheet of Striped Paper (Basic Grey)
2- 12x12 sheets Floral Paper-12 x 12 (Art Impressions)
2 – Pink Flowers (Oriental Trading)
Mulberry Paper Leaves-(Prima)
Scrap piece of Vellum
4- Gold Brads (CTMH)
7 to 8 Assorted Ribbons – 2 yards each (Offray)
3 Bookmark Cords-various colors (Unknown)
Gold/Cream/Pinkish Cording - 50” piece-(Wal-Mart)
Personal Paper Trimmer (Fiskars)
Scissors (Fiskars)
Paint Brushes for Decoupage
Elegant Writer-Black-Medium Point-(Speedball)
Wire Cutters
Cotton Balls
Small amount of alcohol (wipe down the outside of the tin to allow decoupage to stick better)

Instructions:

1. Cut the 12x12 Striped paper into 4.25” strips. Starting in the back, add decoupage to the paper and paste to the tin. When the paper reaches the front around the latch trim carefully. (Hint: Make a pattern out of scrap paper around the latch-then cut your paper to match.) Continue to apply paper and decoupage small amounts at a time matching the top and bottom.

2. Choose a floral paper that has small multiple floral designs. Begin to cut along the flowers to create a border approximately 1” to 1 ¼” wide then trim the other side with the personal trimmer to make a flush edge. This border is then glued to the top and bottom borders of the tin. See photo for placement. Use the same pattern to place the paper around the latch. If the paper does not appear to look right around the latch, cut out some of the flowers individually and paste under the latch.

3. Make a pattern of the top of the tin. Using the same floral paper use the template just made to cut out the shape needed for the top of the tin. The paper will need to be cut in two pieces to fit around the handle. When gluing to the top make sure that the seams overlap around the handle to create an even appearance. Be sure not to leave any air bubbles under the paper.

4. Cut one of the flowers in half and glue to either side of the handle. Make sure that the center of the flower is cut in half equally. See photo for placement.

5. Make a pattern out of scrap paper of the top of the latch. On the lip of the lid add the ribbon of you choice. The ribbon on this tin is cream colored with brown polka dots. A design that doesn’t match perfectly causes it to stand out and show the depth of the lip. Begin applying the ribbon in the back so that the seam does not show on the front.

6. Place the cording around the top and bottom edges of the tin. Choose something that is also different in appearance to the papers so that it doesn’t become lost into the background papers. Start in the back so that seams do not show. Use a small brush to add the decoupage and apple small amounts at a time, as you will need to hold the cording until it is affixed to the tin.

7. Hand-write on the vellum your choice of words. The photo shows the words “le fleurs”, French for flowers. Tear out the words, tearing the vellum up so that the contrast of the vellum will show through. Add the gold brads to each “corner” cutting off the back of the brads to lie flat on the tin. Add decoupage to the back of the brads and place on the tin making sure that the glue does not show through the vellum. See photo for placement.

8. Add the remaining flower to the front of the tin. Place leaves around flowers on the front and top of the tin.

9. Cut the ribbons into 8” pieces and tie around the handle. Start in the middle of the handle and work towards the outside on each side of the handle. Add the bookmark ties to one side only; the colors are hot pink, purple and black.
