Join me in a fun technique called “Acetate Smooch” to create a dreamy cloud-like background for this little fairy to rest her wings.
Supplies: White Card measuring 6-1/2”x5” (Michaels) 1 piece of medium Pink & 1 piece of darker coordinating Pink Cardstock from Pink Monochromatic Pack (Bazzil) Black Card Stock cut to 3-3/4”x3-5/8” and 3-3/8”x1-3/8” (The Angel Co.) Noir Palette Hybrid Ink Pad (Stewart Superior) 1 piece of Acetate (Office Supply Store) White Glossy Cardstock – cut in 4 equal pieces 4-1/4”x5-1/2” (you will use 2 pieces) Metallic Marking Pens: (Marvy) · Metallic Green · Metallic Purple · Metallic Pink · Metallic Blue · Gold Spray Bottle with Water (Michaels) Border Punch (Fiskars) Clay Bead (unknown) Glass Beads: (unknown) · 6 pink · 2 yellow · 4 blue Silver Metallic 6-strand Embroidery Thread (craft store) Large Tapestry Sewing Needle Corner Rounder Scissors Adhesive of Choice Heat Gun (optional) Scrap paper or some newspaper for drying background paper
To Create Background: (Acetate Smooch Technique) 1. Take the piece of acetate and apply the color markers in squiggles. Spray with water. 2. Take a piece of the white glossy cardstock and set it on top of the squished inks. Press all around with your fingers squishing the ink around. 3. Lift the paper off the acetate. It may be a bit drippy, so be careful not to get the inks on your clothing. The paper will curl, but will dry flat. Set the piece on top of some scrap paper to dry. If you are in a hurry – carefully dry with a heat gun. 4. The first printing you make will probably be too intense in color for this particular card. If it is, repeat the above steps with the remaining inks. You may need to spray with a little bit more water. Finishing the Card: 1. Cut the medium Pink cardstock to 6-1/2”x5” and layer on top of the pre-folded white card. 2. Cut the darker Pink to 4-1/4”x6-1/4”. On the right side cut the lace with the Fiskar’s border punch. Make sure you center the border. Do not attach to the card front yet! 3. Take the black matt pieces and round the corners with the corner rounder punch. 4. When the background, made above, is dry, take the larger piece and stamp the fairy with the black ink. On the smaller piece stamp ‘Chasing Moonbeams’. Round the corners on both pieces. Attach these to the black matt pieces. 5. Adhere the pieces you just created to the dark pink piece of cardstock. Refer to the photo for placement. 6. Take a piece of silver embroidery thread and thread onto the needle and knot one end. Bring the thread up from the back of the dark pink cardstock, centered between the two pieces adhered in step 5. String the beads in the following manner: 2 pink; 2 blue; 2 yellow; 1 pink; 1 clay; 1 pink; 1 yellow; 2 blue; and 2 pink. Bring the string down through the cardstock and knot on the back. The beads should lay in a nice row on the top of the piece of cardstock. 7. Adhere the dark pink cardstock to the card front.
