ATC Star Book

By Michele Thompson
Off Road Scrampers
Intermediate Scramping Team Designer

I prepared this ATC Star Book as a Circle Journal on a website I belong to. * Each person participating in the Circle Journal created their own ATC for the book. It worked out really well and was a lot of fun to do! Each participant in the swap completed the individual ATC’s.

Supplies for Book:

  • Stamps (The Artful Lexicon)

  • Walnut Stain Distress Ink (Ranger/Tim Holtz)

  • Pattern Paper (Basic Grey – Mortifica line)

  • Hemp Cording (Close To My Heart)

  • 2 pieces of mat board 3" x 4"

  • 2 pieces of paper for the cover 4" x 5"

  • 5 Pieces of cardstock 5 3/4" x 3 7/8" (this is for the big inside pocket pages) (if you want more than a 5 points on your star then add more pages)

  • 5 pieces of a different color cardstock 4 1/2" x 3 7/8" (pages to make the “star”)

(*Note: If you want to make the pockets, you'll need 10 pieces of paper 3 3/4" x 4 ½.”)

Instructions:

  1. Choose your cover paper and cover both book boards.

  2. Fold all of the 5 Ύ” x 3 7/8” pieces of cardstock in half vertically. Fold all of the 4 ½” x 3 7/8” pieces of cardstock in half vertically.

  3. Make your pockets. To do this, take your 10 pieces of 3 Ύ” x 4 ½” papers, and score each one Ύ” up from the bottom and ½” in on each side. Punch a half circle (or any other shape you want) in the top center of each pocket. Miter the corners and fold in on the score lines.

  4. Add adhesive to the backs of all of the pockets and adhere them to the pocket pages (the 5 pieces of 5 Ύ” x 3 7/8” cardstock that were folded in half vertically).

  5. Now take your first set of pockets and adhere the page to the cover of your book. If you want to be able to tie it closed, remember to lay down your fibers first, before adhering the first page.

  6. Fold the page closed, put adhesive on the back of it, and add your second page of pockets to it. Continue until you have all of the pages adhered to each other and the front cover. Then, adhere the last page to your back cover. Once again, if you are adding fibers for a tie, make sure you do this before you adhere the back cover.

  7. Now take your 5 pieces of 4 ½” x 3 7/8” cardstock (that have, also, been folded in half vertically) and add adhesive to just the back edges of each side. Line up the edge with the first pocket page in your book and adhere. Take the other side and line it up with the other pocket and adhere. Do this with all of the pages.

If you want to do a different size, just follow these general guidelines:

  • First, decide on the single page size.

  • Cut the book board ½” bigger than the pages.

  • Cut the cover paper 1” bigger than the book board.

  • Cut the big inside pages the height and twice the width of the single page size.

  • Cut the smaller inside pages the height and 1-2” smaller in width than the big inside.

That’s it! You now have a completed star book that will hold ATC’s from all of your friends!!

* Directions for this technique were adapted from Wendy Samuels at Our Stamping Studio.
