Jacobs Ladder - My Version

JoAnne Hoffman

Check out JoAnne's version of a Jacob's Ladder showcasing photos. She gives credit to Tricia Morris at Club Scrap for the original idea!

Supplies:
12 Pieces Mat Board Squares, 3 ¼”x 3 ¼”
12 Pieces of Decorative Paper Squares, 3" x 3”
3 Pieces of Grosgrain Ribbon,
  each measuring 40” lengths
Sepia Dye Ink Pad (Ranger) (optional)
Foam Brush
Adhesive (UHU)
Scissors (Fiskars)
Tabs (Hermafix)
Paper cutter (Fiskars 12")
Ruler

Instructions:

1.      Cut 12 mat board squares, 3¼” x 3¼” and 12 decorative paper squares, 3” x 3”.

2.      Swipe the edges of your twelve 3" square paper with sepia ink (optional).

3.      Apply a thin coat of adhesive to a 3" paper square then apply it to a 3¼" mat board.  Continue to glue the remaining squares to the remaining mat board.

4.     You will need to draw guidelines to the back of six pieces of the mat board squares.  Lay the mat board pieces face down.  Lay the ruler across the mat board and measure ½" from the bottom and ½" top edge, the middle line is 1⅝", you have three lines going across, this is for your ribbon placement. You now have six mat board pieces with guidelines and six unmarked pieces.

5.     Cut ¼" wide black grosgrain ribbon into three 40" lengths.  Take one of the marked mat board pieces and place it on the work surface, with the guidelines facing up.  Apply a very thin line of adhesive across the guidelines.

6.      Place one length of 40" ribbon at edge of the first line going to the right, place second 40" ribbon on the third guideline going to the right, and the middle 40" ribbon will go to the left.

7.      At this point I recommend that you make two stacks of mat board with lines (6) and the other (6) printed paper, place side by side so when you pick up the next board you will be able to see which stack was used last.

8.      Squeeze adhesive on back of paper mat board (step 4) sandwiching the ribbon in between the two pieces of mat board.

9.      Flip the top and bottom ribbons over the paper covered side of the mat board piece so that the tails go to the left.  Flip the center ribbon so the tail goes to the right.

10.  WITHOUT ADDING GLUE, stack another marked mat board on top of the ribbons with the guidelines facing up.  Run a thin line of glue on each of the lines, flip the ribbons over onto the glued guidelines.  Continue with the above steps till you have one piece remaining.  Before gluing the last mat board piece into place trim the ribbon ends so that they are even with the edge of the mat board.  Glue the last piece of mat board on top of the trimmed ribbons.  Construction is now complete and ready for decorating.

11.  Orient photos and embellishments vertically and underneath the ribbons.  The images will appear to move up and down the ladder.

Viola! You're done!
