Altered Tags

By: April Staker

This technique is a follow up to the Altered Envelopes technique. They are very similar and complement each other well. Altering tags is a great way to use plain tags, dressing them up to match the theme and style of your project. You can also use them alone as gift tags or on a card! They are fairly simple, with no real rules to follow. Just embellish until you feel like the tag is “finished”!

Supplies:
Flutter By Stamp Set (The Angel Company)
Provence Petal Point Ink Pad (Colorbox)
Green Cardstock 12” x 12” (Bazzill)
Dark Brown Cardstock 12” x 12” (Bazzill)
Cream Cardstock 8½” x 11” (Provo Craft)
Sublime; Gumballs, Cinnamon, Pistachio Paper 12” x 12” (Basic Grey)
Sublime Tags (Basic Grey)
Antique Spiral Clip (Making Memories)
Flower (Prima)
Ribbon (Michael’s)
Brads (Bazzill)
Rub-on Transfers, Center of Attention, Bordeaux mix (Heidi Swapp)
Paper Trimmer (Fiskars)
Sandpaper (unknown)

Instructions:

1. Cut and Sand the edges of your papers as follows:
Green Cardstock: Page
Large and Small Circle Tags: Sand the edges

a. Green Cardstock: Sand the edges after cutting
1” x 3Ύ” Large Tag Accent Strip

b. Dark Brown Cardstock: Sand the edges after cutting
Ύ” x 3Ύ” Large Tag Accent Strip

c. Cream Cardstock:
Mat the Large Tag and trim leaving small border
1Ό” x 3Ύ” Large Tag Accent Strip

d. Gumballs Paper: Sand the edges after cutting
4½” x 12” Top Accent Strip (tear after cutting)
½” x 3Ύ” Large Tag Accent Strip

e. Cinnamon Papers: Sand the edges after cutting
1” x 12” Top Accent Strip
4Ό” x 5½” Bottom Left Photo Mat
4Ό” x 6Ό” Bottom Right Photo Mat

f. Pistachio Papers: Sand the edges after cutting
1Ό” x 12” Top Accent Strip

2. To alter your tag: Stamp the images randomly on the Circle tag. Apply the layers of papers and cardstocks. Attach the flower with a brad to the accent strip before adhering. Apply the rub-ons to the Circle Tag. Thread ribbons through the Large tag and the Circle tag and staple in place. Attach the spiral clip. You can embellish them even more with ribbons, charms, etc. It is so much fun to dress them up! Attach the photo to the bottom.

3. Assemble your page, without the tag, as shown. Stamp images randomly on the Gumball Paper. Stamp images down the length of the Cinnamon Accent Strip. Apply the rub-ons to the Top Accent Strip.

4. Stamp randomly on the page. Attach the Large Tag. Apply rub-ons to the photos.

I love altered tags! They are so much fun! They are a great way to add interest to any page!
