“Fright Night” Halloween Photo Book

By: Cindi Bisson

Fellow Designer Becky Chabot sent me a great box of supplies – and this chipboard book box was perfect for a project I had “screaming” to get out of my head!  Fright Night is a book box featuring Halloween photos of our boys throughout the years.  The photos are mounted on a metal ring to make it simple to add photos in the coming years.  The boys just love taking out their Fright Night book and laughing at their costumes throughout the years!

Supplies:
Assorted Halloween foam stamps
Ancient Page Earthworks PetalPoint inkpad (Clearsnap)
Chipboard book box (The Craft Pedlar)
Halloween patterned papers (Reminisce)
Folk Art White and Black acrylic paints (Plaid Industries)
Assorted fringe, ribbon, and twills
“Jiggle eye” embellishments (Darice)
Jolee’s Boutique Halloween embellishments (EK Success)
Label maker & black label tape (Dymo)
Inkssentials Crackle Accents (Ranger)
Craft & Bond Glue (Elmer’s)
Paper trimmer (Fiskars)
Scissors (CutterBee)
Cropadile Punch (We R Memory Keepers)
Metal key ring (Darice)

Instructions:

1.  Measure front and back covers of chipboard book box. I chose patterned paper with text – and cut my cover paper so the title “fright night” was positioned as desired.  A title could, also, be stamped, die cut, etc.  Cut paper for back cover.  Mount to front and back covers of box.

2.  Apply white acrylic paint to skull image and stamp into lower left corner of front cover.

3.  Mount Jolee’s witch’s broom embellishment at an angle over stamped skull.

4.  Paint all uncovered sides and inside of box with black acrylic paint.  Dry brush a small amount of paint along front and back cover edges. Let dry.

5.  Measure and cut pieces of decorative trims for left edge of cover.  Mount as desired.  (For this project I layered black ric-rac over black & orange fringe).

6.  Apply Ranger Crackle Accents over title lettering.  Let dry.

7.  Spell out remaining text using Dymo label maker and black label tape.  Apply to cover as desired.

8.  Print photos to fit on 3 ½ x 5” pieces of paper or cardstock.  (Multiple smaller photos can be arranged on one piece, or a single 3 ½ x 5” photo could be used as the page itself).

9.  Measure and cut 3 ¾” x 5 ¼” mats from assorted coordinating cardstocks and patterned papers.

10. Ink edges of all photos and mats using Chocolate Ancient Page ink.

11. Arrange photos on mats as desired and mount.

12. Use assorted foam stamps and white acrylic paint and assorted Jolee’s embellishments to accent photo pages.

13. Print text as desired using Dymo label maker and add to photo pages.

14. Select patterned paper for cover of the flip book.  Cut to 3 ¾” x 5 ¼”.  As in the cover of the book, I chose a piece which said “boo” and cut it accordingly.

15. Measure and cut trims for top and bottom of cover page and mount.

16. Add “jiggle eyes,” Jolee’s embellishment, and Dymo label text as shown in photo.

17. Apply Ranger Crackle Accents over “boo” on paper and let dry.

18. Use Crop-a-dile punch (or small hole punch) to punch hole in desired corner of all pages of mini flip book.

19. Use metal key ring to bind pages.  Add assorted ribbons/twills to key ring.

20. Finished book can be stored inside your Fright Night chipboard box for years of spooky memories!
