3D Scrapbook Shadow Box, Part I

By: Rita Ann Plummer
Hot Rod Scramping Team
Advanced Scramping Team Designer

This is great idea for giving as a gift or for keeping yourself and is incredibly simple to construct. I bought shadow boxes from Michaels, which were on sale. There are many different sizes, shapes and colors of frames. This is part one. This is permanent. I selected black as a background to play with Alcohol Inks.  The end result provides an antique gold appearance. The additional embellishments and 3D flowers play up the design.  Shadow Box Part I is a permanent display piece.  Tune into the next edition for Shadow Box Part II.

Instructions:

Outside Shadow Box Frame

1.      Remove the back of shadow box and clean off the dust from the box and glass.

2.      Combine Mixatives Gold and Pearl Alcohol Inks with the Blending Solution together on the white felt with tool.

3.      Dab all over from side to side on all four sides of the shadow box and pick up more alcohol ink colors as needed.

3D Poinsettias Flowers

4.      Place yellow paint into disposable cup. Put the white Pom-poms into the yellow paint cup and roll over to cover the white. Remove “wet” pom-poms out paint cup and place on palette paper or waxed paper.  After a few minutes, transfer pom-poms to a clean spot and allow to dry.

5.      Construct the Red Abstract Flowers: ink up the word print stamp with Black Jet Ink and stamp on the red foam repeatedly about 8 times. Cut out the flower images with good sharp scissors.

6.      Construct the Green Abstract Flowers: ink up the word print stamp with Black Jet Ink and stamp on the red foam repeatedly about 14 times. Cut out the flower images with good sharp scissors.

7.      Use low temperate glue gun and adhere 3 pom-poms to the center of each full flower.  The glue gun is much faster than regular liquid glue attaching the pom-poms.

8.      Using the low temperate glue gun adhere 2 leaves under each full flower.

Inside the Shadow Box

9.      Using the low temperate glue gun and starting in the lower left hand side, glue the Poinsettias Flowers beginning at the center flower.  Refer to photo for placement.

10.  Place the 12” x 12” Holly Berries/Spearmint patterned paper on the black.

11.  Trim the two 5” x 7” photos.

12.  Place the photo on the red cardstock and trim.

13.  Place the two photos backed by red cardstock onto the patterned paper in the box.

14.  Craft 8 corner picture mounts by punching four 1 3/8” squares from black scrap cardstock. Punch each square again with a 5/8” creating a center window.

15.  Cut these four window squares from corner to corner and place on each corner of the red cardstock as a picture mount.

16.  Position the poinsettia flower with glitter on the photo corner.

17.  Use Dark Blush Red cardstock and 2” size font and process the words “Merry Christmas” from the Cricut die cut machine.

18.  Run the words “Merry Christmas” through a Xyron create-a-sticker and remove the plastic.

19.  Apply Art Glitter Dries Clear Adhesive to the word “Merry.”  Sprinkle the word “Merry” with red glitter until completely covered.  Shake off excess glitter and return to jar. Let dry thoroughly.

20.  Position the word “Merry” to the top right side of patterned paper.

21.  Position the rhinestone word “Christmas” underneath “Merry.”

22.  Using the low temperate glue gun, attach two flowers with leaves on the corner patterned paper.
