By: Beki Ward

Supplies:
Date stamp
Flower stamp and sentiment stamp (Time to Stamp)
Brilliant Blue Craft ink (Stampin’ Up!)
Old Olive dye ink (Stampin’ Up!)
Four pieces scrapbooking paper (approx. 3 ½” x 3 ½”), solid & patterned, in coordinating colors
Two “scrap” pieces of white or off-white cardstock
Two beverage coasters (approx. 3 ½” x 3 ½”)
Coordinating ribbon and paper flowers
Alphabet rub-ons (Magnolia/Memory Works)
Adhesives:  ATG Tape (PennyWiseArts.com)
Crafter’s Choice Decoupage Glue (ClubScrap.com)
Mini Glue Dots
Two or three Small hinges (ClubScrap.com or a hardware store)
Mini brads
Corner rounder punch
Blender pen (Stampin’ Up!)
Brilliant Blue & Old Olive marker (Stampin’ Up!)
Clear Embossing powder
Fine grit sand paper
Very strong glue appropriate for metal
Xacto knife

Instructions:

1.      Using the fine sand paper, lightly sand both sides of each coaster, making sure to clean off any residue.

2.      Using the Crafter’s Choice glue and a sponge brush, brush on a thin coat onto one side of each coaster and adhere a piece of coordinating, patterned scrapbooking paper.  Allow this to dry a few minutes, repeat this process on the other side of each coaster.

3.      Crop each photograph to fit on each coaster, rounding two opposing corners and layer each onto a piece of solid cardstock, trim leaving a 1/16” border and “round” the same corners as was rounded on the photo; then, layer onto another piece of solid, coordinating cardstock trim leaving a 1/16” border, again “rounding” the same corners as before; set aside.

4.      Using the small fern stamp from Time to Stamp and Old Olive ink, stamp three times in opposing corners of one coaster that has been covered with solid cardstock.  Using the Magnolia alphabet rub-ons, spell “friends” and adhere diagonally on the same coaster.  Using glue dots, adhere several flowers over the stamped fern images allowing the ferns to show.  Set aside.

5.      Using brilliant blue ink and the flower stamp from Time to Stamp, stamp onto a scrap piece of white or off-white cardstock; emboss image using clear embossing powder.  When cooled, use the blender pen to pick-up color from the blue & green markers and color the blossoms and leaves.  Using a Xacto knife, carefully cut out image.  Adhere one photo onto the side of a coaster that has been covered with patterned paper; using glue dots, add the flower stamped and embossed/colored image; tie a small bow and using glue dots, adhere bow above the photo.  Set aside.

6.      Using brilliant blue ink and the sentiment stamp from Time to Stamp, stamp onto a scrap piece of white or off-white cardstock; emboss using clear embossing powder.  When cooled, trim closely and adhere to a piece of solid cardstock the same as was done with the photos.  Layer this element at an angle onto the other side of the coaster that has been covered with patterned scrapbooking paper, trim any corners that may hang off the coaster.  Using glue dots, adhere flowers and a small bow as desired.

7.      Using the other photograph that has been layered onto solid cardstock and trimmed, adhere at a slight angle to the last side of the coaster.  Using the date stamp and brilliant blue ink, stamp date in the lower right-hand corner and emboss carefully with clear embossing powder.  (Warning:  Be very careful not to get your heat tool too close to the photo as it may damage it; this embossing can be done before permanently adhering the photo.)  Using glue dots, adhere flowers as desired.

8.      Using strong glue intended for metal, adhere hinges and allow to dry.  Then, using a pair of wire/metal “nippers”/pliers, trim the prongs off four small brads and adhere over the hinge holes using mini glue dots.
