Fabric Card
Rubber Inspiration Designer Challenge

By: Peggie Wilkins

What a fun challenge this was!  I loved the stamps I received.  This is the first time I had ever colored on fabric using Prismacolor pencils and it was so easy. I first saw this technique used on a quilt and it was quite beautiful. You just never know where an idea may come from!

Directions:

1.      Fray the edges of the fabric.

2.      Stamp bamboo on fabric using Burnt Umber Ink.

3.      Color the bamboo by holding the fabric taut with the opposite hand.  First color the bamboo with jade green and then color over that with light umber. Color the leaves with marine green then accent with the spring green.  Color the background with cloud blue. Color the edging with muted turquoise.

4.      Center the fabric over the cream cardstock and pin the upper right hand corner of the fabric to the cardstock and pin the lower left hand corner of the fabric to the cardstock. On opposite corners glue the fabric to the cardstock with glue stick.

5.      Adhere the fabric/paper layer to the green Bazzill.

6.      Adhere cashmere paper to the card.

7.      Adhere the fabric/cardstock layer to the card as shown.

8.      Stamp the butterfly and the water lily on the scraps of cream cardstock.

9.      Color the butterfly with shades of yellow and Spanish orange. Color the butterfly’s body with goldenrod and then light umber. Color the water lily flower with pink and blush pink and the water lily leaves with marine and spring greens.

10.  Cut out the butterfly and the water lily.

11.  Shape the wire into antennae.

12.  Drop alcohol ink on the wire to color the antennae. Let dry.

13.  Tape the antennae to the back of the butterfly.

14. Using foam tape, mount the butterfly and water lily to the card as shown.
