Altered Mini Photo Album - Victorian Peep Show

By M. Elizabeth Lee
Rubber Roadsters
Publisher/Editor/Designer/Writer

This project is an original idea designed by my crafty daughter, Mona Reese, a rubber stamp and mixed media artist.  She envisions an altered state for any book.  I remember when I first saw these mini photo albums on a keychain and thought how perfect they would be for her altering frame of mind.  I even bought up stashes for future use as gifts & orders.  When I saw her clever Peep Show theme, I was humorously amazed!  I have been creating my own renditions ever since that time.  They originally had a Harry Potter cover to them, and I hope you will agree that the finished product is much more fun!

Supplies:

•  Mini Photo Album with Keychain (Cedco Publishing Company)
•  Classic Nudes Ephemera (Artchix Studio)
•  Elegance Alphabet Stickers (Miss Elizabeth’s)
•  Mini envelope
•  Black Permanent Marker (Sharpie)
•  Charms, Buttons, or Beads for Embellishments, as desired (Creative Beginnings)
•  Grid Cutting Mat for Work Surface (Creative Memories)
•  Glossy Accents (Ranger)
•  Detail Scissors (Zenflex)
•  Paper Towels (Viva)
•  Magic Sticker Maker (Xyron)
•  Sanding Sponge (3M)
•  Tack Rag (Delta)
•  ProCraft Craft Gloves (Wilshire Technologies)

Instructions:

  1. Sand the front and back mini photo album with a sanding sponge.  Wipe off dust with a tack rag.
  1. Cut out ephemera papers and run through the Xyron machine.  Adhere to the front and back covers inside and out.

  1. Apply the self stick alphabet words “Peep Show” on the front cover.  Embellish with a variety of novelty items, buttons, and charms and glue on with Glossy Accents.

  1. Apply the alphabet letters to spell out “Peeps” to the inside cover of the mini photo album.

  1. Run the envelope through the Xyron machine.  On the outside of the mini envelope write “10˘” with a Black Sharpie Marker.  Remove the adhesive paper backing and attach the envelope near the bottom of the inside cover.  Place a dime in the envelope for good measure and to carry idea across to viewers.

  1. Fill photo album with favorite photos or collectible ephemera.
