Altered Puzzle Pieces

Puzzle pieces can add so much variety to your creations! They come in various sizes and there is no limit to the different ways you can alter them! In this layout, I coated some with UTEE and covered another one with patterned paper. Acrylic paint is another great way to change their appearance!

•  White Cardstock (Georgia Pacific ~ Walmart)
•  Patterned Paper (KIMemories)
•  Acrylic Paint (Delta)
        White

        Hot Pink

•  2” Paintbrush
•  Foam Brush (Making Memories)
•  Melting Pot (Ranger)
•  Gold UTEE (Suze Weinberg)
•  Ribbon (Miscellaneous)
•  Microscope Slide (unknown)

•  Brayer with rubber attachment (Speedball)

•  Sewing Machine
•  Printer (HP DeskJet 932C)

Instructions:

1.                Stamp flower randomly on background with white paint. 

2.                Create custom monogram from patterned paper using WordArt on your computer. Cut out and ink edges with black paint with foam brush.

3.                Place monogram on background to help with placement of stamping rest of title, leaving room for puzzle piece. 

4.                Trace puzzle piece on patterned paper, cut out and glue to puzzle. Ink edged with black paint using foam brush. Stamp letters using black ink. 

5.                Cut strip of drywall tape and brayer with black ink. Adhere to background paper under the monogram and puzzle. 

6.                Cut mat for photo so there 1” border on all sides; I cut my mat 6”x8” since my photo was 4”x6.” Dry brush mat with light pink, dark pink and lavender paints. Spray with webbing spray. Ink edges with black paint using foam brush. 

7.                Attach ribbon to bottom of photo mat with sewing machine. Glue photo on mat. Glue to top right corner of background. 

8.                Place gold UTEE in Melting Pot and allow to melt. Cut a piece of patterned paper 1”x3” to fit behind microscope slide. Stamp letters using black ink. Place behind slide and dip each side into gold UTEE in Melting Pot. Set aside to cool. 

9.                Dip puzzle pieces in gold UTEE in Melting Pot. Set aside to cool. 

10.           String beads on gold thread and wrap around puzzle pieces as desired, securing with a glue dot on the back. 

11.           Glue puzzle pieces and microscope slide to background as desired.

 Voila! Layout complete!
