Paper Fastener Titles
By
Becky Lemire
This layout is from my oldest son's first church Christmas program. The large cardboard star was part of his "costume". It's fun to use pieces from the Christmas program, play, or concert that you are making a memory piece of. The program or playbill with the person's name in it is always a good piece to have in your memory book. If you can't fit the whole costume on a page, then why not use a piece of the fabric the costume was made from. I like to use items on my pages that were actually a part of the moment I am trying to remember. That is as long as it isn't a frog or something that the boys would probably bring in to craft their own memories. Be creative! You don't always have to find the "perfect" thing for your layout from a scrapbooking store. As far as keeping it acid free, there are neutralizer sprays out on the market to make your pieces safe for being around your photos. Krylon makes a spray called Make it Acid Free! and Preservation Technologies makes a spray called Archival Mist. Don't let the "it's got to be acid free" rule keep you from creating the perfect personalized page using your own items. Supplies: Sans Small Caps
Alphabet Rubber Stamps (CTMH) Instructions:1. Cut out all papers as directed in the supplies. 2. Punch six 1" stars from the gold foil. Save a piece that the punched stars were from. Punch 1/8" stars in the center of the larger stars. 3. Tear one piece of the red background paper starting from about 1/4 of the way down the left hand side down at an angle to about 3/4 of the way down the right hand side of the paper. On the other full red piece tear from about 3/4 of the way down the left side up at an angle to about 1/4 down the right side. This will give a white torn edge. See photo.
4.
Tear a scrap piece of the red background paper to about 1 1/2" x 7".
This will be used for the title.
5. Cover the front of the coin holder with a piece of the same red paper and attach on the front and back using a thin layer of craft glue. Using a craft knife, cut out the circle from the back. Using the gold leafing pen, edge the inside of the circle with gold. Using the piece of gold foil that a star was punched from, cut a square to fit the back of the coin holder so that the negative star space is centered in the circle. Attach a small picture of your "star" in the center. 6. Ink up the letter stamps with Staz On Solvent Ink and stamp one letter on each brad for the title. Keep a steady hand. If you make a mistake have rubbing alcohol on hand and immediately wipe off. 7. Punch holes where the title is to go on the red torn title piece. Attach brads. 8. Attach the torn red pieces as shown in the photo using double stick tape. On the second page of the layout, don't tape along the torn edge. Run tape very well along the bottom as this will be the pocket to hold the program or any other paper memorabilia you may have. 9. Ink the edges of the blue cardstock pieces and the white cardstock piece using Galaxy Gold Brilliance ink by swiping the pad along the edges. 10. Attach the white cardstock to the largest navy cardstock leaving more space along the bottom. Attach 3 star brads along the bottom of the navy cardstock. Use this piece for journaling. 11. Assemble the rest of the pieces as shown. When doing the title, attach the brad piece down first and place the gold stickers for the beginning of the title slightly overlapping this piece. To attach the gold metal star punch-outs, use a thin layer of tacky glue or run the stars through a Xyron sticker maker.
