Card In A Box

By Susan Sawn
Rubber Roadsters
Advanced Stamping Team Designer

Supply List:

  • Art Nouveau Alphabets (The Stampsmith)
  • Happy Birthday (Rubber Stampede)
  • May Your Birthday Be (Hero Arts)
  • Wishing You Joys to Share (Unknown)
  • Swirly border (A Stamp In The Hand Co.)
  • V border (A Stamp In The Hand Co.)
  • Adirondack Dye Inks (Lettuce, Meadow, Pesto, Oregano, Bottle)
  • Mint green ribbon (Sheer Creations, Michael’s)
  • 2 pieces White cardstock, cut to size:  3 ¼” x 3 ¼”
  • Layering cardstock in your choice of colors (I used various greens)
  • Small jewelry-type box with removable cover 3 ½” x 3 ½” (Michael’s)
  • Double sided tape (3M)
  • Xacto knife and cutting mat

Instructions:

1.    Using white cardstock, stamp two of each letter needed to spell recipient’s name.  Stamp Happy Birthday twice as well.  Use a different color ink for each letter.

2.    Stamp birthday sayings onto two pieces of 3 ¼” x 3 ¼” cardstock (for inside top and bottom of the box).

3.    If desired, stamp coordinating designs onto top and sides of box.

4.    Trim stamped letters and layer with one or two colors of cardstock.  Make sure images are no larger than 3 ¼” x 3 ¼” in order to fit into the box.

5.    With Xacto knife, cut a slit in the middle of both 3 ¼” x 3 ¼” pieces of cardstock.  Slide one end of the ribbon through the slit in one piece.  Attach the cardstock to the top of the box with double sided tape.

6.    Attach stamped, layered letters back-to-back onto ribbon with double sided tape (e.g., for Susan you’d have 2 S’s, 2 U’s, 2 S’s, 2 A’s, 2 N’s – attach the 2 S’s together, the 2 U’s together…) so the name is attached to the ribbon starting from the top of the box working to the bottom.

7.    Slide the remaining end of ribbon through the slit in the final 3 ¼” x 3 ¼” cardstock, and attach to the bottom of the box with double sided tape.

8.    To mail this “card,” tape the sides with a little cellophane tape and write the address on the top of the box.
