Color Wash Background 2 (Wet on wet)

By Jeni Calkins
Scrampin' Love Bug
Beginners Scramping Team Designer

Are these color washes fun or what? The colors are so rich they liven up your page. This next technique will give your pages a blast of color with a softer pattern.  It’s called “Wet on Wet” and uses techniques often applied to watercolors. So get your gloves and old clothes on, protect your work area with newspaper, and get ready to get messy.

Supplies:

•    Stamp - Arizona Sun (Stamp A Mania)
•    Adirondack color wash (Ranger)
        Butterscotch
        Terra Cotta
        Wild Plum
        Stream
        Eggplant
•    Ancient Page - Cardinal (Colorbox)
•    White cardstock (Fox River Paper)
•    Jewel Red Cardstock (Michael's)
•    Paper cutter (Fiskars)
•    Hermafix tabs (Herma)
•    Font - Croobie (unknown)
•    Table Salt
•    Rubbing alcohol
•    Gloves

General Instructions:

1.                Get the paper very wet with water and let it sit for a few minutes, then while paper is still wet spray on one or more colors of the color washes.

2.                The color should travel along the water and blend nicely,

3.                Sprinkle or spray rubbing alcohol onto the wet paper to give it bold splotches. Sprinkle with table salt while the paper is still wet for a paper a subtle pattern. Once the paper is dry, brush off the salt.

  1. Spray one sheet of white cardstock with water, followed by Wild Plum and Eggplant color wash. Sprinkle with salt. Let dry, then brush off the salt. Repeat to make a sheet dyed with stream and a sheet dyed with Butterscotch and Terra Cotta.
  2. Mat focus photo in jewel red.
  3. Print journaling on Butterscotch & Terra Cotta paper. Mount on Eggplant and Wild Plum paper.
  4. Cut up remaining paper into different size rectangles and layer it around the photo in an interesting pattern. Add accent photos.
  5. Mount color-washed paper to jewel red cardstock with herma fix.
  6. Stamp Arizona Sun in Cardinal ink randomly on page.
