Altered Inspiration Delights - Series I
Delight in Simple Things Jar with Clay Embellishments

Amy McIntire, Angel #1571
Paper Arts & Crafts
Designer

Ever see those cute money saver jars in the gift shop and then saw the price tag? Now, a cute jar can be made for just pennies (like the ones saved inside the jar).  You can save for any occasion, even for a pampering day at the spa! Of course, any small item can be saved in these jars, not just money.

Cute embellishments can easily be made with air-dry clay (Creative Paperclay). It can be stamped on, colored on and molded.

•    Sage Green Speckle cardstock (K & Company)
•    Cream Daffodil Stripe cardstock (K & Company)
•    Air-dry clay (Creative Paperclay Co.)
•    Eucalyptus Acrylic Paint (Delta Ceramcoat)
•    Canning jar with lid
•    Sage Green organza ribbon (Offray)
•    Scalloped trim, white
•    Silk flower
•    Chipboard
•    Eyelet
•    Eyelet Tools (Karen Foster Click-it tool)
•    Antique Brass Brads (Making Memories)
•    Adhesive Dots (Zots)
•    Adhesive Roller (Hermafix)
•    Exacto knife
•    Foam Brush
•    Cotton Swabs

Instructions:

1.          Clean lid with vinegar before painting. Then paint canning jar lid green, let dry and sit aside (don’t paint the inside ridges).

2.           Daffodil Stripe paper; cut to size: 12” x 2 ½”. Adhere to jar with adhesive roller.

3.          Place a piece of 12” ribbon on the top and bottom edges of the cut paper. Adhere to place with glue dot adhesive. Adhere a piece of white scalloped trim to the center of the paper.

4.           Stamp bathtub image onto cream cardstock and cut around the image. Then adhere onto sage green cardstock and cut around the image again.  Ink the edges with Luscious Lips ink and color in the image with the inks listed (using cotton swabs to add in the color). Adhere image to the center of the jar.

5.          Stamp images on clay: Heart and Delight – roll a small ball of clay out and spread out slightly. Ink up heart stamp and press into the clay, remove stamp and mold to shape. Do the same with the Delight stamp, set aside. **Air-dry clay takes up to 24 hours to completely dry. However, the drying process goes much faster when using an embossing heat tool (Marvy Uchida).

6.          For the tag, freehand cut a tag from chipboard; cut to size: 1” x 2 ½”. Paint with green paint and let dry.

7.          When tag is dry, punch a 1/8” hole in the top-center for the eyelet and set with eyelet tool.

8.          Crumple-up a scrap piece of the cream cardstock and brush the Tattered Rose ink onto the crinkles with a cotton swab. Cut a piece of the Daffodil Stripe paper, 1” x 2” and adhere to the bottom edge of the tag.

9.          Stamp phrase on scrap piece of cream cardstock and ink the edges with brown ink and adhere to the Daffodil Stripe paper in the lower right corner.

10.     Take the dried clay pieces and trim the edges with an Exacto knife (be very careful as the blade is very sharp). Place clay embellishments on the jar and tag as shown with adhesive dots.

11.     Take silk flower and add a brad in the center, adhere with an adhesive dot. Thread piece of green ribbon through eyelet and attach tag to the jar.
