Adirondack Color
Wash Background 1
By
Jeni Calkins I have been having so much fun playing with the new Adirondack color washes by Ranger. These are vibrant inks in a spray bottle just perfect for making quick colorful backgrounds. This month I’m going to show you some different ways to use these sprays to pump up the volume on your pages. These inks are very messy so wear some rubber gloves, old cloths, and work in an area you don’t have to worry about over spray. Spray Method - The easiest method is to give your paper a light spray of color. The farther you hold the spray bottle away from the paper the finer the dots will be. Hold the spray bottle close to the paper for a paint splatter look. (see photo below)
Ink Transfer Method -For a complete saturation of color spray, the color washes onto a flat surface covered with plastic wrap (you can also use a piece of acetate). Next, lay your cardstock onto the ink and press allowing the cardstock to soak up the ink. Lift and re-position the cardstock pressing it into any remaining ink until very little white areas remain. (See Photos below).
Dabbed on Method - Don’t be afraid to use other objects to apply ink. Here I’ve used plastic wrap crumpled into a ball, then sprayed with the color wash and dabbed onto the card stock. (See Photo below).
Supplies· Stamp - Arizona sun (Stamp A Mania) · Adirondack Color wash – Butterscotch, Terra cotta, Wild plum, Stream, Eggplant (Ranger) · Adirondack ink pad – Denim (Ranger) · Shadow box uppercase (Sizzix) · White cardstock (Fox River Paper) · Navy cardstock (KMA) · Paper cutter (Fiskars) · Hermafix tabs (Herma) · Glue stick (Tombo) · Plastic wrap · GlovesInstructions: 1. Spray one sheet of white cardstock with wild plum, stream and eggplant. Let dry. 2. Using a scrunched up piece of plastic wrap sprayed with Wild Plum, Stream, and Eggplant, dab ink onto another sheet of white cardstock. Let dry. 3. Cover a box lid with plastic wrap and spray Butterscotch and Terra Cotta Color Washes onto the plastic wrap. Lay another sheet of white cardstock on top of the ink and press. Re-position the cardstock on the ink until the cardstock is covered in ink and let dry. 4. Mat photo in navy. 5. Using the sizzix die-cutter, cut letters from sprayed paper and color transfer paper. 6. Cut up remaining paper into different size rectangles and layer it around the photo in interesting patterns. 7. Mount color washed paper to navy cardstock with herma fix and die-cut letters with a glue stick 8. Stamp Arizona Sun in Denim ink randomly on page.
