Chalk Popping
By
Cheryl Gebhart
Supplies:
Instructions: 1. Stamp the mountain scene on a scrap of medium green cardstock with Versamark Ink. I like to stamp on a scrap a little larger than I need and trim it after Ive stamped it. This way I dont have to be as careful centering the design. 2. Remove one of the green cakes of chalk from the box. If the chalk doesnt come out of the box easily, lift up the plastic tray and gently push on the cake from underneath. Using an X-acto knife, gently scrape the edge of the chalk over the stamped cardstock so that the chalk dust falls onto the image. 3. Scrape 2 more shades of green chalk over the stamped image. 4. Using a cotton ball, gently rub the chalk dust into the stamped image. 5. Gently brush away the excess chalk dust. The Versamark Ink grabs the chalk, coloring the image. 6. Cut your scrap of cardstock leaving a narrow border all the way around your image; mine is 4 wide X 2 ½ tall. 7. Take the Versamark inkpad in one hand and your cardstock in the other hand and rub the edges of the cardstock along the inkpad. Scrape the darkest green chalk onto the cardstock edges. Gently rub the chalk dust into the ink with the cotton ball and then brush away the excess. Set this aside. 8. Stamp the large tree in the center of a second scrap of medium green cardstock with Versamark Ink. Stamp the small tree on either side of the large tree. 9. Repeat steps 2 through 7; my piece of cardstock is 2 Ύ wide X 3 tall. Yours may vary, depending on how close you stamped your trees. 10. Stamp the small tree onto a third scrap of medium green cardstock with Versamark Ink. Stamp the tree 5 times. 11. Repeat steps 2 through 7; my piece of cardstock is 4 Ό wide X 2 tall. Yours may vary, depending on how close you stamped your trees. 12. Stamp your title and checkerboard border onto a fourth scrap of medium green cardstock with Versamark Ink. 13. Repeat steps 2 through 6 this time; my piece of cardstock is 4 ½ wide X 3 Ό tall. Yours may vary, depending on your title. Set this aside with your other pieces. 14. Type your journaling onto two more scraps of medium green cardstock. Trim, leaving ½ borders all the way around. My pieces are 4 wide X 2 tall (left page) and 4 wide X 1 ½ tall (right page). Yours may vary, depending on your journaling. 15. Stamp the bolt head into each corner of your journaling blocks with black ink. Set these aside with your other pieces. 16. Take your two pieces of 12 X 12 cardstock and cut a 4 ½ strip off of each one. Switch them around so that you have a large solid piece with a small patterned piece (set 1) and a large patterned piece with a small solid piece (set 2). 17. Working with set 1 first, turn them over so that the backs are facing up. Put the two pieces next to each other so that they measure 12 X 12. Line them up carefully; they should touch but not overlap. Put several photo splits along the seam. The entire seam does not need to be completely covered, because you will be covering the seam on the front later. Just use enough so that the two pieces stay together. 18. Repeat number 17 with set 2. 19. To make the strips that will cover the seams, cut four strips of medium green cardstock ½ wide. Two of the strips should be at least 6 long, and the other two should be about 1 long. 20. Stamp the checkerboard border on the strips with Versamark Ink. The border stamp is only 5 ½ long, so you will need to stamp it twice on the 6 strips. 21. Scrape the darkest green chalk onto the cardstock strips. Gently rub the chalk dust into the ink with the cotton ball and then brush away the excess. 22. Tape the strips over the seams: Start with set 1. The page is right side up with the large solid cardstock at the top and the small patterned cardstock at the bottom. Since a photo will cover the seam on the right, tape the 6 strip over the left side of the seam and the 1 strip over the right side of the seam. With set 2, the page is right side up with the large patterned cardstock at the top and the small solid cardstock at the bottom. Since a photo will cover the seam on the left, tape the 6 strip over the right side of the seam and the 1 strip over the left side of the seam. 23. Place your photos, journaling blocks, title block, and stamped blocks on your pages as shown in the picture.
