am•u•let (am˘yə·lit) n Anything worn about one’s person to protect from accident or ill luck; a charm.

This is a cute little purse if you ask me.  I learned to make these at a stamp retreat in 2001.  Since then, I have demonstrated them at the retreats that I host, at The Angel Company’s annual convention, and for craft shows.  They are always a big hit and a great gift for a little girl who loves jewelry or a big girl to hide emergency money in.

Supplies

  • Flower stamp (TAC)
  • Red Hybrid Palette Ink (Stewart Superior)
  • 6”x2 ˝” strip of Wonder Sheet
  • 6 ˝” x 3” piece of light colored fabric
  • 1/8” wonder tape
  • Clear Microbeads (Pennywise)
  • 2-Jump rings (jewelry findings – JoAnns)
  • 18”-24” gold cording or chain
  • 1/8” circle punch (Fiskars)

Instructions:

1.    Randomly stamp the flowers onto the light colored fabric with the Hybrid craft ink.

2.    Remove one side of the protective covering from the wonder sheet and place on fabric, stamped side up.

3.    Trim off the excess fabric from the edges.

4.    Fold and score in three sections, making the top flap smaller than the other two. (See example.)

5.    Place wonder tape on side edges of the bottom section and along the top edge of the smaller top flap.

6.    Remove the protective covering of the top flap’s tape and fold over itself to create a smaller flap.  This should still have the wonder sheet attached to it.

7.    Remove the protective covering of the tape on the bottom section and fold up to create a pouch. (See example.)

8.    Punch holes in sides at the pouches top edge with the 1/8” punch.

9.    Starting at the flaps edge, remove the protective covering, one section at a time, exposing the adhesive. Press into the microbeads until all three sides have been covered with beads.

10.   Tie loops in the ends of the gold cording.

11.     Open a jump ring and feed through the punched hole and one of the cording loops.   Close jump ring.  Repeat for other side.

12.         Your purse is now complete.

Use printed holiday fabrics or bold colors for theme bags.  Give as graduation or birthday gifts with money inside, or a good luck charm.  Whatever the occasion, the lucky recipient will love the idea of this special gift just for them.
