Sizzlits Heart Art

By Terri Doney
Hot Rod Scrampers
Advanced Scramping Team Designer

I have fallen in love with Sizzlits from Provo Craft.  They have some wonderful alphabets and dies.  Die cuts have come a long way since the beginning of scrap booking and have evolved into artistic tools.

Supplies:

  • Well Defined Backgrounds (TAC)
  • Ocean Scented Ink (Ranger~ScrapbookSociety)
  • Blue Velvet Paper (PaperAddict.Com)
  • Blue Embossed Cardstock (Unknown)
  • Vintage Patterned Paper (Unknown)
  • White Cardstock (Georgia Pacific)
  • Sizzlits Flowers by Jorli (Provo Craft)
  • Sizzlits Tags (Provo Craft)
  • Sizzlits Boxed Brush Alphabet (Provo Craft)
  • Bazzill Basics Cardstock in Red, Pink and 2 colors of Green (Bazzill)
  • Key and Heart Charms (Treasured Memories)
  • Scotch Permanent Double Sided Photo Safe Tape (3M)
  • Creative Memories Tape Runner (Creative Memories)
  • Sizzix Sidekick (Provo Craft)
  • Perfect Layers Matting Rulers (QVC)
  • Craft Knife (X-acto)
  • Diamond Glaze Adhesive (Judikins)
  • Paper Trimmer (Carl)

Instructions

1.  To create the background of the Heart page, I selected a blue embossed cardstock and a piece of vintage patterned paper from my cardstock collection.  I tore the patterned paper at both the top right and bottom left corners and adhered them to the cardstock using the Creative Memories tape runner.  I cut some blue velvet paper to make smaller corners and adhered them to the vintage patterned paper using the tape runner again.

2.  To create my die cut block, I stamped with the Well Defined Backgrounds on white cardstock using the Friends and Heart definitions and Ocean Scented Ink.  I cut it into a 2 inch wide by 3 inch tall block.  I then used the Sizzlits Flowers by Jorli set to cut the roses out of the pink and red Bazzill cardstock.  I set them aside and cut the roses once more out of green cardstock.  I cut the rose blooms off the die cut roses in red and pink and adhered them to the die cut green roses placing them over the green bloom.  I did this for all five of my roses.  The roses on the upper right corner have had the leaves and stems cut off.

3. I then used the same Sizzlits set to cut the ferns out of the light green and dark green cardstock and to cut the vase out of blue velvet paper.  I cut the top of the die cut vase off and adhered my die cut flowers in the center of my 2” x 3” Well Defined block and put the velvet vase on top.  This allowed the illusion that the flowers are in the vase. To complete my die cut block, I attached a key and a heart lock to the block using the Diamond Glaze, an excellent dimensional adhesive.

4.  I matted my photos onto the velvet paper using Scotch double sided tape and used the Perfect Layers ruler and an X-acto knife to cut a perfect mat.  I did the same with the die cut block matting it onto the velvet paper.  I adhered the roses and ferns to the upper right corner and the die cut block and my photos to the page.

5.  I used the Sizzlits Tags die cut set to cut the round tags and the Sizzlits Boxed Brush alphabet to cut the letters for hearts out of extra paper that I stamped with the Well Defined Backgrounds.  I adhered the letters on to the tags using the Creative Memories tape runner and adhered them to the center of my page.

6.  The final alteration to my page was to add journaling.  The journaling reads: “Friendship isn’t defined by the number of friends we have, It is defined by the friends who hold the keys to our…Heart.”
